Before you leave home

We’ll send you information about how to log in to the ELC student portal. From here, you’ll be able to see information about arriving into Sydney and download your student handbook, which includes information about living in Australia. You’ll also be able to enrol in our free online welcome courses so you can feel confident in your English for meeting new people at school and in your accommodation.

You can book your accommodation in Sydney through ELC so that you’ll be able to go straight there when you arrive. We can arrange for you to be met at the airport and taken to your accommodation.

On your first day at school you’ll be given an orientation to the school and area. You’ll also get your class timetable and coursebook and then join your classmates for your first lesson.

ELC’s friendly staff are available whenever you need some help. Our support services include:

  • General: Chat to our student services team any time you have questions about life in Sydney including transport, medical services or social activities.
  • Academic: We’ll make sure you’re in the most suitable course and class for your goals and you can talk to the team about your study plan at any time.
  • Work: You can enrol in our short online course and attend face-to-face workshops each Monday to learn about working in Australia and get ready to apply for jobs.
  • Accommodation: Stay in accommodation sourced by ELC or chat to our accommodation team about how to find your own place in Sydney.
  • Travel: If you want to travel around Australia or just book a weekend activity, our travel team are ready to advise you.
  • Welfare: Our qualified student counsellor is very experienced in providing support to students who are experiencing homesickness or in other ways finding it hard to adjust to life in Australia.
